reviews:

"'a year apart' is more boltfish sweetness (jan 2005) this time around cheju’s the contributor. the first out of four tracks bears the same title as the ep itself, that is, 'a year apart'. the beats and well-composed melody works perfectly with the undeniable expertise in sound selection. 'expodec' is not quite as cheerful and has been equipped with an intro filled with atmosphere enters the groove to lock it all down, tight and secure. it's an excellent piece of music and it would make wonders happen on the big sound. 'blots' straightforward beats, bassline and atmospheric enhancements. '…tracks with excellent production, warmth and precise sound…' you know what i mean? the fourth and last track 'microform' would in likeness with the last track on the preceding boltfish release, mint's 'manmade nature' find it's place in any nursery and also has the sweetest of melodies. mind you it would be a nursery filled with bass and beats at that. in conclusion: cheju's 'a year apart' is not revolutionary, it's just very good!" - electronic desert, 02.05

"'a year apart' is what you would expect to hear on the walkman of a toadstool in the middle of a forest whilst a bio thermonuclear war rages all around it. cheju has created a series of intricate and detailed musical patterns that you can weave into your face and leave to soak in overnight. more quality stuff on boltfish, awesome." - tesselate, 02.05

"bolt012 by cheju is simply lovely. 'a year apart' opens with what sounds like a tranquilized lowfish cut --instead of focusing on the upbeat, it delivers synthetic fluctuation over time. its immediate opening of warm melodies and plod-like feel is a crafty emotional number. elsewhere you'll find bouncy electro pieces such as 'expodec' and 'blots', tracks that would fit quite well in the chill-out room of your local electronic pub. 'microform' weaves a web of sincere experimentation. the skewed beat pattern and delicate melodies close up this disc rather quickly --leaving the listener in a confused state. 'a year apart' is the perfect journey featuring exquisite electronic moments and an overall feel that has you simply itching for their next release." - igloomag, 02.05

"the latest feast of electronic mastery courtesy of those boltfish people opens with the title track to cheju's latest outing on the on-line, freebie downloads label. it's a slow tempo'd track with an eerie winter feel to it, imagine glaciers and not much else other than a drifting arctic tern and you'll get the feeling of this delightfully chilled track. 'expodec' maintains the cinematic vibe, with a stickier groove. 'blots' ups the tempo with more percussive influences, but isn't quite as enchanting as the previous two tracks. finally comes 'microform' and more of the wintery chilled out tones, aquatic touches and plenty of depth to a rich sound that is surely perfect for a festive morning, hangover raging, your breath casting a cloud on the air and all that. boltfish continue with music that paints pictures in your head." - untitledmusic, 12.04
- guts of darkness, 10.06
