"so here we have the full album release of ian hawgood's koen park remixes on the excellent i, absentee label. the first disc concerns itself with getting in some great artists to reinterpret ian's original tracks and i have to say it's a wonderful selection of pure electronica. featuring the likes of cheju, portal, phasen, milieu, mrs jynx and plenty more it's a real journey into beats and sounds that is ear pleasingly warm and friendly all the way. from the low-down grooves of trills' version through to the lightly pop inflected wonderfulness of the fugenn and the white elephants mix. the variety is just a real pleasure to hear and gets a big thumbs up from me. the second disc sees a whole host of versions from the deeply talented mr hawgood as he takes on a veritable wealth of material from i, absentee artists and friends. he's an incredibly versatile musician and these tracks are a testament to that fact. deep ambience meets scrunched out beats, beautifully arranged songs, drifting shoegaze moments and somuch more. i could waffle on about how good these tracks are for ages, but i'll simply allow you to enjoy the samples and see for yourself. it's a good day today and i'm very pleased to be able to bring this cracking album to you. recommended? yup, most definitely." - smallfish, 04.09
